Election 2006: Which Liar is More Believable?

The Liberals say the Tory figures are fudged and just don't add up. The Tories say the Liberals recent tax bribes are unethical but offer us one of their own.

Paul Martin portrays himself as the defender of Trudeau's constitution over gay rights. But he now says he will remove the notwithstanding clause.

Harper smugly smiles and plays it safe enjoying his recent surge in the polls. Martin accuses Harper of dancing to the tune of George Bush, and his desperate Tory-bashing backfires on him.

Confused? Amidst all this chicanery let's remember one thing. Politicians are self-serving, and they will say whatever they think you want to hear to get your vote and pad their pensions.

A few months from now we will be so absorbed in our own lives that we will forget most of their promises. And that is what they are banking on.

Talk about choosing between the lessor of two evils. It's all smoke and mirrors and grandstanding for the cameras.

My advice is determine for yourself what are the fundamental differences between the parties and vote with your conscience and not what they promise.

Because as far as politicians are concerned, promises are made to be broken.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Today Jack Layton pleads to a Victoria BC audience that there is a third party option. Heh. If only that were true.
